Tom Newman
President, Interactive One
Tom Newman joined Interactive One as President in May, 2007. Interactive One is a digital and print media company focusing on the African-American and urban market. Interactive One was founded this year by Radio-One (NASDAQ: ROIAK), a radio and media conglomerate with over 60 radio stations across the United States. Mr. Newman came to Interactive One from Time Warner, which he joined in 2000. Most recently, he served as the Senior Vice President of Network Development, focusing on strategy and corporate development for AOL. He reported to the President of Media Networks, AOL’s advertising and ecommerce division. In this role, he helped implement a robust online advertising growth strategy, which moved AOL from $400 million to over $2 billion during his tenure. He worked on a variety of initiatives including the acquisition and integration of Advertising.com, development of new advertising products and businesses (e.g., mobile, data targeting, and video), implementing new sales, ecommerce, and search strategies, as well as key transactions including the multi-billion dollar Google strategic relationship. Previously, he worked in Time Warner’s Mergers and Acquisitions group where he worked on a variety of domestic and cross-border media transactions including the sale of Warner Music Group and Warner Manufacturing for over $3 billion. Prior to joining Time Warner, he was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. Newman graduated from Harvard College Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Classics and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He lives in New York City and is involved in several non-for-profit organizations, including serving as a Board Member and Treasurer for Asphalt Green, one of the largest community and sports centers in New York, providing services to thousands of inner city children each year.
