The Voice of Radio One Goes Global
3/20/2006
Founder and Chairperson, Cathy Hughes once said that Radio One provides a voice for the African American community. Today, Alfred Liggins, President and CEO, has taken that "voice" global. Last year, Radio One added its latest venture to its portfolio of radio stations, the nation's leading African American website, BlackAmericaWeb.com.
BlackAmericaWeb is a virtual town square that provides news, information, entertainment, games and promotions for internet savvy African Americans. Its primary objective is to become a timely and credible source for news and information by covering all aspects of daily life and featuring a wide array of viewpoints. BAW has become all the rage for visitors - and advertisers - boasting as many as 7 million viewers per month.
Founded in 2001 by media mogul, Tom Joyner, BAW has benefited from Joyner's ability to mobilize African Americans. Visitors can listen to the Tom Joyner Morning Show, get an abundance of information and learn about the latest sponsored projects and events.
The news and information on the website are produced by original writers and the Black Press. It also provides tools that help site visitors make informed decisions that affect their daily lives.
BlackAmericaWeb is also the home of the Praise & Worship Channel which features the column of internationally acclaimed Bishop T. D. Jakes. The column, entitled, Bishop's Corner with T.D. Jakes, has been designed to uplift, motivate and minister to the spiritual health to its viewers.
